Curry powder is a little like pizza or chili: there are hundreds of different ways to make it, and none of them really is wrong. My curry powder is a blend of spices that adds complexity, nuance and at least a little warmth (not necessarily hot!), to a dish.
Fun fact: Curry, as we know it now, was not used in India! In fact it was a British culinary innovation developed from various spiced dishes used in Indian cooking during the early 1900's.
Curry Powder
How Hot Is This?
Mild, with NO hot pepper. There might be a small amount of heat from the other ingredients (chili powder, etc), but it is quite mild and acceptable to all but the most sensitive folks.
Medium Spicy, with enough Cayenne to give the flavor some zing, but really should not have your running for the fire hose.
HOT!! At least twice as much Cayenne as my Medium Spicy varieties. Expect this burst of heat to set your tongue on fire. Recommended for true heat lovers! What's in it?
